Applications now invited for REPs Ireland Council

The REPs Ireland Council has been established by Ireland Active, to oversee and support the function of the Register of Exercise Professionals Ireland (REPs Ireland).

The specific role of the council is to inform the setting of policy and standards in relation to professional registration, provide advice in regard to industry trends, needs and opportunities that will enhance professional and industry development.

The 9 person council shall be comprised of a nominated Chairperson, with 8 members to be appointed through this open application process.

The selection of suitable members for the council shall fulfill the following minimum criteria:

* Represent a key stakeholder (Please see further information below)
* Appropriate experience and/or qualifications
* Commitment to standards development and good governance
* Equality of representation, reflecting the diverse role and   membership of the register
* Active support and promotion of REPs Ireland

The selection process shall seek to provide gender equality and regional diversity on the REPs Ireland Council.

It is anticipated that a decision will be made before the 31st March.

Please note that membership of the REPs Ireland Council is voluntary, with an expectation that members will be able to attend meetings as scheduled (approx 4-6 per annum). Location, dates & timing of meetings will be agreed by the Council to facilitate members where possible.

Additional meetings may be required if also appointed to sub committees or technical expert groups (TEG), this will be at the individuals discretion. 

Key Stakeholders
1. Registered Exercise Professional

We are inviting applications from current Registered Exercise Professionals. We will also accept applications from practicing exercise professionals who are eligible to gain entry to the professional register.

To ensure constructive contribution as a REPs Ireland Council member, we will be looking for, but not limited to the following characteristics:

*Currently a practicing exercise professional as the substantive part of current employment
*Minimum 5 years experience within the exercise profession
*Experience accross a number of population groups and exercise professional roles
*Appropriate education & training and technical expertise
*A track record of professional and ethical work practice
*A committment to and understanding of standards in the workplace
*An ability to communicate effictively and work positively in a leadership role
*An understanding of current issues facing the exercise professional within the industry, and a willingness to address these positively

2. Education & Training Provider

We are inviting applications from current tutors that deliver on current REPs Ireland endorsed education & training provider courses.

We will also welcome applications from tutors in the area of exercise & fitness, that may not currently be associated with REPs Ireland approved education & training providers. (Preference will be given to representatives from current REPs Ireland approved education & training providers.)

To ensure constructive contribution as a REPs Ireland Council member, we will be looking for, but not limited to the following characteristics:

*Currently a practicing tutor for an education and training provider in the area of exercise & fitness as the substantive part of current employment
*Minimum 5 years experience
*Experience of education & training accross a number of population groups and exercise professional roles
*Appropriate academic education & training
*A track record of professional and ethical work practice
*A committment to and understanding of standards within education & training
*An ability to communicate effictively and work positively in a leadership role
*An understanding of current issues facing the exercise professional within education & training, and a willingness to address these positively

3. Employer

We are inviting applications from Employers who currently manage exercise professionals.

We are seeking applicants from businesses that are current Ireland Active members, who are also participants in the White Flag award.

Applications are welcome from employers who's business may not be appropriate to take part within the White Flag award, but will commit to becoming active members of Ireland Active, if not already members.

To ensure constructive contribution as a REPs Ireland Council member, we will be looking for, but not limited to the following characteristics:

*Currently a practicing manager of exercise professionals, involved in the recruitment and directly responsible for the performance and ongoing employment of exercise professionals as part of a business.
*Minimum 5 years experience as a direct employer within the exercise profession.
*Experience of employing and managing exercise professionals accross a range roles
*Appropriate professional education & training
*A track record of professional and ethical work practice
*A committment to and understanding of standards within the workplace
*An ability to communicate effictively and work positively in a leadership role
*An understanding of current issues facing the industry as an employer of exercise professionals, and a willingness to address these positively

4. National or state organisations

We are inviting applications from representatives from national or state organisations that have an interest in the development of a professional Register of Exercise Professionals.

To ensure constructive contribution as a REPs Ireland Council member, we will be looking for, but not limited to the following characteristics:

*An influencial role within a national or state organisation that can help develop strategic partnerships for exercise professionals
*An appreciation and previous involvement/exposure to key elements of the exercise professionals education & training or performance.
*An appreciation of the variety or roles an exercise professional performs
*A track record of professional and ethical work practice
*An understanding of standards development & quality assurance
*An ability to communicate effictively and work positively in a leadership role
*An understanding of current issues facing the exercise professional and a willingness to address these positively

5. Professional Organisations

We are inviting applications from representatives from professional organisations that have an interest in the development of a professional Register of Exercise Professionals.

To ensure constructive contribution as a REPs Ireland Council member, we will be looking for, but not limited to the following characteristics:

*An influencial role within an appropriate professional organisation that can help develop strategic partnerships for exercise professionals
*An appreciation and previous involvement/exposure to key elements of the exercise professionals education & training or performance.
*An appreciation of the variety or roles an exercise professional performs
*A track record of professional and ethical work practice
*An understanding of standards development & quality assurance
*An ability to communicate effictively and work positively in a leadership role
*An understanding of current issues facing the exercise professional and a willingness to address these positively

6. Others

Applications are invited from anyone that feels they have particular experience or technical skills that would be of value to the REPs Ireland Council.

This is an open application process where all applications will be screened and short listed on merit.

An applicant may meet some or all of the suggested criteria in the above stakeholder categories.

If the applicant does not recognise that they fulfill any of the stakeholder categories, due to possbly working accross a number of them, we would ask you to apply under this category.
