Budget 2020

As we await the eagerly anticipated budget 2020, Ireland Active have submitted the following 6 key priorities to get Ireland active. On behalf of the lesiure , health & fitness industry, Ireland Active's pre-budget submission was sent to every member of the oireactas in advance of today. Outlined in this submission is 6 key areas:

  • Keep the 9% VAT rate for the sport and leisure sector and look to reduce the rate to 0% over the lifetime of the National Sports Policy
  • Extend the Exemption from VAT for swimming lessons to all exercise programmes for children and adults and consider a change to a 0% VAT rate
  • Help to Get Employees More Active by introducing a Fit for Work Scheme via a salary sacrifice arrangement similar to the Bike for Work scheme for leisure centre and gym membership
  • Invest a certain portion of tax income received from the Sugar Tax for programmes directed at education in schools around nutrition and physical activity
  • Deliver on the key objectives of the Alliance for Insurance Reform for reducing insurance costs for sport and leisure businesses
